Parental Involvement

This age group is usually characterized by children voicing that they don’t want to be seen with their parents. Keep in mind though that you can still be involved without stepping on their toes.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Be involved in the PTA
  • Help with school fundraisers
  • Ask them about their day and what they are learning- don’t patronize them
  • Be at their events, but don’t embarrass them by drawing attention to yourself
  • Open your house for their friends to come over and get to know them
  • Let them make decisions
  • Be approachable and friendly to their friends, but don’t become friends with their friends
  • Regularly visit the school but don’t be seen by your children or their friends
  • Chaperone field trips, but don’t stay glued to your child
